Children's Ministry

Our vision at West Hendon Baptist Church Sunday School is to make disciples of the next generation who will be unshaken in their faith in Jesus Christ

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

Sunday School

Our aim is to make sure every child can be themselves in a safe and welcoming environment. We want the kids to have great fun whilst learning more about Jesus and meeting with Him.

Meeting time and the location where the meeting is held:
2nd and 4th Sunday of the month in the church hall: 10:35 am - 12:00noon

Creche (0 to 3 years)

We have a creche available during the service where parents and carers can safely allow their children to play during the service.

There are a selection of age-appropriate toys available and baby changing facilities. We run a wide range of activities for your little ones to participate in during the service. We're used to giggles and tears - and want to make sure that everyone with a little person who comes to our church has the right facilities - ensuring that both parents and children feel comfortable and right at home.

Pre-school (3 to 5 years)

We believe that our children should learn about Jesus from an early age therefore we actively encourage parents to bring their pre-school aged children to Sunday School where we offer a range of activities to help start them on their journey with Christ.

At each of our sessions, we have Bible stories, arts and crafts, games, creative play, and from time to time one of our friendly puppets may pop by.

Primary (6 - 11)

Studies show that children will form their world view by the age of 12, because of this we aim to invest a lot of time with this age group. At each of our sessions, we dig deep into the bible, learning about the Old and New Testaments with bible stories, life application lessons, worksheets, crafts, games, memory verses, and an energetic time of praise and worship.

We also host special events for this age group from Christmas Movie nights to arts and craft days, Bible-based escape rooms, and Easter Holiday Club.

We also host Kidz Klub for 5 to 11-year-olds on Thursday evenings during school term time from 6:15 pm to 7:30 pm. For more information head over to www.theurbanfamily.org.uk for more information.

Secondary (11 - 14)

Our older group is now ready to move away from the bible stories and crafts, and with this group, we spend time studying the word and relating it to our everyday life. We aim to make this a safe place for our teens to ask the BIG questions about life and to get straight honest answers from the bible.

We also host Kidz 2 Youth on the 4th Saturday of every month where we play table tennis, video games, do crafts, cooking workshops and

discuss relevant topics to the children backed up with biblical teaching. For more information6 visit www.theurbanfamily.org.uk

All-Age Prayer Meeting

Four times per year we meet as a family from the youngest in the church to the eldest and come together to pray.

This is usually held on the Thursday evenings of half term and starts at 6:30 pm and finishes at 7:30 pm. Families are encouraged to join in with all the activities and move around the various prayer stations.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building for our Sunday Service starting at 10am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits after the church service. It is a great way to meet people. All refreshments are free.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our band. We typically have 2 or 3 songs lasting approximately 20 minutes. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a final worship song. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my kids?

Sunday school runs on the 2nd & 4th Sundays from 10:40 am to 11:50 am. On the 5th Sunday, we host a special event for all the children.
All children, aged 3-11 will be in classes that are run in a Kidz Klub style.

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At some point before the sermon someone will announce that it’s time for the Sunday School classes.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
